This Gallery of pictures features some of the best of my hoverfly' images for 2002, created using a Fuji FinePix 6900Z digital camera. There are other hoverfly' images, too, taken in earlier years, using a Pentax camera and conventional film, mostly Fuji. All images have been edited using Photoshop 6.

This page is currently in the development stage. Additional images and appropriate texts will be added over the next few weeks.

Merodon equestris, a Bumblebee mimic, Home Garden, Aldwick, 17 July 2002. Merodon equestris has a wide range of colour forms, mimicking bumblebees, both those with red and those with white tails etc. Favours sunny spots with flowers, and is especially associated with Bluebells into the bulbs of which the larva burrows.

Volucella zonaria, is a hoverfly found in Southern Counties. Its large size make it intimidating, especially if one should stray indoors as so often happens. Home Garden, Aldwick, Summer 2002.
